CSP Outdoors: Wire Mesh Goggles
Ok we all know there is nothing worse than being on point in your squad and your goggles start to fog. Solution: The CSP Outdoors Wire Mesh Chipping Goggles. These things are great, and a great value.
What’s Included, Construction, Basic Info
Included with the package was the goggles…and a receipt. That’s it. The frame is made up of polycarbonate (sounds fairly tactical) and the mesh is made of of steel threads. These goggles were created as Chainsaw Chipping Goggles but had heard numerous reports of people using them for airsoft.
Feel and Comfort
The frames have a nice soft padding around the inside which makes contact with your head around your eyes. Feels great. The very first time I went out on an Op with them it was strange being able to kind of see the wire mesh grid but then a squad mate asked me about 10 minutes later what I thought about them and I truly forgot I had them on. Your eyes seem to just see past the mesh like it isn’t even there. Oh and there was no fog …ever. If you have never used wire mesh goggles then I cannot stress to you how good this feels. No smearing your home made anit-fog solution on your lenses only to have it bead up in 15 minutes causing the same problem you were initially try to avoid. It is also nice that they allow your eyes to breath a little. If there is a breeze it goes right through the mesh and helps a great deal. They secure to your head by an adjustable high strength stretchy band. Never had a problem with them trying to come off on me.
Durability, Fire Test
Obviously these goggles are meant to protect the one part of your body that is at the most risk (your eyes). So we made sure to put it through a situation in which you should never encounter in the field. We fire tested the goggles from 2 feet with .20g bb’s at 420 feet per second. There was a dent in the goggles mesh but you could only notice by running your finger over it. Couldn’t really see the deformity with your eyes. If it will hold up to 420fps at near point blank range then they are good enough for me. I know some people are worried that the bb could shatter and send shards passing threw the mesh. We don’t think this is likely due to the 20 threads per inch design of the CSP’s.We do encourage you to conduct your own test if you decide to purchase these goggles. Can’t be to careful with your eyes!
Final Thoughts
Pros: Not very expensive, stood up nicely to our tests, NO FOG!
Cons: There are none. Just get them! The goggles come in 3 different mesh patterns. 10, 20 and 30 threads per inch. Most airsoft fields I play at require a minimum of 20 threads per inch. So make sure you check with your local clubs rules and get the correct goggles. Almost everyone on my team now uses these goggles. When you order them it seems to only take about 4 days for them to show up. Don’t really see how I can’t give this product a perfect 10. Honestly the only thing that would make them better is if they came in OD.

Thanks for the nice review and direct link to our product page!! We originally included the goggles for use by the wood trades - logging, chipping, sawmills, etc. - but, Airsoft enthusiasts are the ones buying them. We sell them all over the world. I found the link through one of my internet orders and have given you a link back from our website.

I purchased a pair of #20 mesh for airsoft after reading your reveiw . I have tried lots of different types of eye protection and have always had a fogging problem so when they arrived I was egre to try them . Instantly I found them the most comfortable goggles I had ever worn and the vision was second to none . Until I picked my rifle up ! When adopting the normal firing position my vision is totally obscured by the centre nose piece and I can’t see a damn thing , which in my view renders them quite useless . I have given them to various people to try and they have all said the same thing ! Have you actually skirmished with them yet ? If so , how did you get on because i’m dreading it . After nearly 30 quid and 4 weeks waiting for them I can see these goggles an integral part of the deepest darkest part of my kit bag ! ” Probably the most disappointing purchase in my airsoft career so far” “Sorry”…………….Regards…..Michael

Michael,
I am sorry for your experience. Before writing the review I had used these goggles in many many matches. I have NEVER had any of the problems that you are describing (and neither has anyone on my team). We are all able to use these specific goggles with any weapon and any sights that we have come across. I guess I’m a little confused about the “centre nose piece.” What exactly do you mean? On the versions that we reviewed, there is no nose piece.
The ONLY problem I have EVER had with these goggles was that every once in a while, if you look at the sun correctly, it refracts off of each steel thread making it unable to see through. Other than that they have been extremely satisfying, just as our review states. Honestly you are the first negative review I have ever seen (excluding those who simply don’t trust wiremesh). Again, sorry for your experience and thank you for writing in.

Well michael i dont quiet get how the center piece actually blocks you sighting in? . . I have had these pair for the last games i have played and i am so glad that i purchased these. Dealing with the fog and scratching of the lends i finally went mesh and i chose these for the price, and they are well worth the price.. The only down side i found with these are the clear “Geeky” look that they make you look like. But after some sanding and a little paint, they are my best purchase of gear for airsoft… Playing before with Goggles and other clear or colored lenses i found that these mesh ones allow you to move the weapon infront of your face easier than with a mask. So please i dont see how you are having trouble with them?

I recommend that you do not use mesh goggles. BBs can shatter and send shrapnel through the mesh and into your eyes. Even the smallest particle of sharp plastic in your eye can cause damage.
